100&NOMORE: The origin of the artisanal gin that revolutionizes the gourmet market

In the vibrant heart of Barcelona, amidst the aromas of Mediterranean cuisine and a passion for innovation, I have created a gin that is redefining the premium drinks landscape. Its name is 100&NOMORE, and this brand has grown from the humble beginnings of a personal hobby to become a favourite in gourmet shops and luxury hotels.

The Origin of my Unexpected Passion

The story of 100&NOMORE began like many great stories: with a spark of curiosity and a pinch of chance. I am Ricardo Barguñó, a chemical engineer with no previous experience in distillation. I discovered my passion for gin at a Gin Tonic workshop in a bar in the Gracia neighborhood. Intrigued by a peculiar ingredient, the electric flower, which numbs the mouth when drinking, I decided to experiment by macerating supermarket gin with different botanicals.

What started as a simple test at home, using my friends as guinea pigs, soon turned into a passion. I began experimenting with different ingredients to surprise each barbecue we had on our terrace, until I was convinced to take it a step further and turn it into a business.

So I contacted Carles Bonnin from La Destilateca in Terrassa to create a gin from scratch. His first reaction was not very encouraging: "What you're doing is terrible, but the idea is very good." However, far from discouraging me, together we improved the recipes to launch 3 gins in July 2021.

Exclusivity in Every Bottle

What sets 100&NOMORE apart from other premium gins is the concept of limited editions. Each recipe is produced in batches of just 100 bottles, inspired by places around the world, each with a label in a different colour and numbered from 1 to 100. When an edition is sold out, it is withdrawn, thus creating a constantly changing catalogue. This approach not only creates a sense of exclusivity, but also a personal connection with each bottle, as each one tells a unique story.

Now that I am 100% dedicated to the brand, I want some gins to be seasonal, like the one we launch every Christmas.

The image and packaging of 100&NOMORE have also been designed with a level of detail that is more reminiscent of haute perfumery than drinks. This is no coincidence, as my father worked in the perfume industry all his life, and this influence is reflected in the presentation of the bottles, by the Lavernia & Cienfuegos studio.

Commitment to Quality

The elaboration of each new gin follows a process that is as meticulous as it is creative. Sometimes, the starting point is a rare and difficult-to-find ingredient, such as bergamot in the Calabrian recipe. Other times, it is a place that serves as inspiration, such as the Costa Brava, whose fresh, Mediterranean aroma is recreated using pine, lavender and dill.

The ingredients used by 100&NOMORE are always 100% natural and are distilled in copper stills for longer than usual to extract all their properties. As a result, the alcohol is perfectly integrated, making these gins, despite their 40 degrees, pleasant to drink alone without being aggressive to the palate.

Innovación y Reconocimientos

Each bottle of 100&NOMORE comes in an elegant box that includes the story of the brand and 18th-century Dutch explorer Andreas Van Loy, whose expedition in search of spices inspired the limited editions. According to legend, after a voyage filled with storms and pirate attacks, he only managed to obtain enough spices to produce 100 bottles of a medicine – a philosophy I have adopted for my brand.

100&NOMORE’s innovative design has received prestigious awards such as the Bronze Laus and recognition at the World Design Awards. The brand has also launched tasting packs with 100ml bottles ideal for gifts and glasses made from recycled bottles, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.

A Promising Future

With a solid foundation in place, 100&NOMORE is ready to take an even bigger leap. I'm not only looking to consolidate the brand in the premium gin sector, but also to expand into other drinks such as whisky and rum, always maintaining the philosophy of exclusivity and quality that has defined the project since its inception.

From my hobby on the terrace at home to a recognised brand in luxury hotels and gourmet shops, the history of 100&NOMORE shows that passion, creativity and a good Gin Tonic can change everything. And now that the project is in full growth, only one question remains: what will be the next recipe that I will surprise you with?
